Ways to Customize Your Bedroom

Of all the rooms in your home, your bedroom is arguably the most personal. Don't let it feel bland or generic—read on for some tips on creating a unique oasis which satisfies all the senses.

Make Your Bed a Nest

Every kid loves a bed fort, and the big kid version is a DIY canopy bed. Canopies are whimsical, elegant, and can be yours with some curtain rails or industrial pipe, and a few yards of fabric. Nothing ordinary here.

Create a Cool Headboard

If a canopy isn't your style, look to your headboard. You don't need to purchase a whole new bed—if you have a divan or box frame, the possibilities are endless. Use paint, art, furniture or even salvaged building materials to give presence to your bed. When you're bored of the look, simply switch it out for something new.

Piles of Pillows

If you ask me, the best thing about sleeping in a hotel is all the pillows. Bring that luxury to your bedroom with an abundance of them, and don't be afraid to mix colors, patterns and textures. It's an easy addition that can entirely change the look and feel of a bedroom, and can be switched out seasonally.
